Jim Richardson , who takes the role of Task Leader, brings expertise to the Task in the fields of silviculture and forest management in relation to forest biomass production. He combines North American experience with European professional training.
Jim is currently an independent consultant in forestry and bioenergy, based in Ottawa, Canada. Prior to his retirement from the Science Branch of the Canadian Forest Service (CFS), Natural Resources Canada, he managed the CFS national ENFOR Program of research and development on forest biomass production for energy. For 18 years, he has been involved with IEA Bioenergy in several capacities - as Technical Advisory Committee representative for Canada for Tasks related to forest biomass production from conventional forestry, as leader of Activities on Forest Biomass Production and Forest Management in Tasks VI, VIII and XII, as Executive Committee representative for Canada, and most recently leader of Task 18 and Task 31. He has an extensive network of contacts nationally and internationally in the field of bioenergy, and holds executive positions in the Canadian Bioenergy Association, the Poplar Council of Canada and the International Poplar Commission of FAO. He has organized a number of major international forestry scientific conferences and has written and edited numerous publications.
The Canadian Forest Service is the most important forestry research organization in Canada. Along with energy, earth sciences and geomatics sectors, it is part of the federal department of Natural Resources Canada. For 25 years, CFS has managed a program of research and development in forest biomass production for energy. Natural Resources Canada is the Canadian signatory to the IEA Bioenergy Agreement and Task 31. |
